Talib Kweli!

On Friday night, a bit of Brooklyn came to Sydney and I had a little reunion with my adopted hometown by way of hip hop genius Talib Kweli!

What an absolutely fantastic show. Talib was supported by Jean Grae who mixed her lyrical skills with background vocals and music reminiscent of Etta James and the like. The man himself was off the chain, proving that artists with true talent only get better with age. His new stuff was impressive and the classics like "Get By" brought the house down.

After the encore, my cohort Richard and I both had to use the bathroom and it was the best move we could have made. More than half the place had left and Talib came back out on the decks with his MC and started ripping it up with everything that made hip hop what it is today - Mobb Deep, Biggie, Dre, Tupac, Meth and more. It turned into a full blown dance party with people on the stage, in the rafters and on their seats. With a few hundred people in a small venue that only fits 1,000, it was absolutely off the hook - as was I when I rolled home, exhausted, at 3am.

Without a doubt, one of my best nights in Sydney. What more can I say? Big up to BK.
