The Blue Mountains

Last week, Kendra and I escaped the city and took a two hour train west to the Blue Mountains. It was a sweltering day and we figured why not see what’s outside of Sydney! Our train left from Central Station and arrived in Katoomba, a great little town full of cute cafes and vintage shops. From there, we boarded a double decker bus which drove us into the mountains. They call them the Blue Mountains because of an ever-present blue haze that comes from sunlight refracting through the eucalyptus oil that evaporates from the gum trees. Gorgeous! We hiked all around and got to see some of the famous sites, including a rock formation called the Three Sisters and a stunning waterfall called Leura Cascades that we had to hike down (and back up) some exhausting verticals to get to. It was certainly worth it as you can see from the pictures! For lunch we headed to a tiny town called Leura and ate sandwiches in the shade. It was nice and cool under the umbrella of the trees and we had an amazing and exhausting day!
